The last few weeks have been a busy time here at JohnEklund.com. I have moved everything over to a new server and got everything set up in Movable Type, a brilliant content management system. It hasn't been the easiest thing in the world to do, moving it all over, but it is done nonetheless. I used a homespun content manager on my old server which unfortunately didn't output files in the correct format for a smooth import into Movable Type. So I had to import each entry by hand, one at a time and reformat each one, one at a time. This may not sound like too much but when you consider that there are 337 Ramblings, 29 Walt Quotes, 167 Quotes Of The Day, and 89 Notable Quotes it sucked a lot. Plus all the templates had to be reformatted as well. But it's done and I'm quite proud of it. 3 weeks worth of work! You can't tell much is different by looking, but the backend stuff is really in good shape now. The Quotes of the Day, The Walt Quotes and The Notable Quotes are all in a better format now as well. If you're reading this now then you are on my new server. I'm pretty excited about having gotten it all moved over and up and working. Having everything in Movable Type should facilitate me writing more, which is a good thing.

You may wondering why I had to move over to a new server. That would be because I have sold Inexplicable Productions, my web design and hosting company, to PAV Studios. I am officially retiring! It's not that it wasn't profitable anymore, it's was just time to move on. I haven't really done anything new with it for a while and it was becoming more of a burden than anything. I really enjoyed doing the work and establishing relationships with all my clients, but my heart wasn't in it anymore. I started Inexplicable Productions back in 1998 and have been running it as a side business ever since and have done well with it. It hasn't made me rich but I've made a good $70,000 or so extra that I wouldn't have had otherwise over the course of the years. Most important to me was that my clients be in good hands when I retired and in moving every one to PAV I know they will be well taken care of, not just hosting-wise but with design and business consulting as well.

The Carolina Panthers have officially made it to the playoffs! Unfortunately it seems like it would be easier to buy a kidney than it would to get playoff tickets. Nonetheless, I'll try getting them on Monday morning. We'll see how it goes.

We're leaving for home in the morning and tonight is the John and Erin Christmas Special number 4. It's hard to believe we've spent 4 Christmases together but we have. It's pretty amazing, as is she. This time next year we'll be officially celebrating our first married Christmas together!
