Since I've been with Erin there has always been some debate as to the greatness of the movie "A Christmas Story": I feel it is one of the best movies ever, not just Christmas movies, but all movies. She has a fond dislike for it. It followed suit that I noticed that several of the women around me also did not like the movie, so I got to wondering "Is it a chick thing? Do all women hate A Christmas Story?" So, last December I sent out a poll to several female friends. The original email follows:
"I'm informally, yet quite formally polling some of the women I know, yourselves included, to find out if there is in fact a single female that I know who does not detest the movie "A Christmas Story" - you know the movie with little Ralphie who shoots his eye out - a timeless, wonderful holiday classic. But do not be influenced by my perspective! This shall be a non-scientific, non-random poll, the results of which shall be posted to a web site of some sort. This select group of women I am sending this to will be representative of the entire population of women as a whole. Please respond soon, as the results of this poll could influence critical Christmas-time viewing in at least one household.

- Lynda: love it - watch it at least once every christmas - youll shoot your
eye out!
- Ellen: Sad to say...I've NEVER seen it!!
- Deborah: I will say NO.
- Crystal: Yes, I can stand it. It's traditional to see it on at some point during the season. I feel compassion for ralphie, but I don't particularly like him. I like the narrative and the way it's put together, however I can't remember the ending. I'm not entirely sure I've ever seen the ending. Possible reasons for this could be simply that the movie fails to hold my attention, or that the holidays generally represent a very busy time in my life. In any light, it's tolerable, but not entirely enjoyable.
- Melissa: Yes.. I quite enjoy the movie. I have seen it a few times and my favorite parts of course are the .. "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out" and the tounge on the frosted metal poll.
- Brooke: I do not detest that movie, however, i wouldn't watch it repeatively. If it was on TBS and there was nothing good on MTV i would watch it.
- Jessica: YES - except it's more like "don't mind only watching it once a year" than "like it" Jess also added "You are a crackhead!"
- Chrissy: I hated that movie.
- Ellen: MY all-time fav, "A Christmas Story"!
Conclusions drawn: It's not a chick thing. Some like it and some don't. And apparently I am a crackhead.
