using these 'lasers'
01-24-05
I had intralasik on Friday at the Christenbury Eye Center and all went well. My vision is pretty close to 20/20 now and is continuing to get better (they say it will continue to improve in the weeks/months to come).
The procedure itself wasn't too bad, and by not too bad I mean I didn't die during the procedure. Seriously there really wasn't anything more than some discomfort, which is amazing considering they're shooting laser beams directly into my eyes. The worst part was definitely the flap cutting, where I could feel a lot of pressure on my eyes, not from the laser but from the machine pushing down on the eye. It's over fairly quickly though (about 60 seconds each eye to cut the corneal flap). The real procedure where they reshape the eye is incredibly brief, maybe 3-5 seconds for each eye. I was amazed at how quickly the eye heals up too, as I could see clearly pretty much immediately.
The worst part now is having to wear these clear protective eye shields when I sleep. They're there to keep you from rubbing your eyes, which is good, but they're taped to your face and when you sleep on the side of your face like me they spend the majority of the night pressing into your face so you have these huge creases in your face for an hour or so after you wake up. But if that's as bad as it gets after getting shot in the eyes with lasers and having perfect vision, I guess it's not too bad at all.
